Mishap Report:
88-1682 has been crashed due to a pilot mistake at Seymour Johnson AFB on 31st May, 2000, 11:30 local time. During a formation takeoff the leading aircraft lifted nosewheel from the runway when the wingman pilot decided that his aircraft was not going to lift off at that point. He aborted takeoff and taxied into the designated hot brake area. The arriving fire-fighting personnel noted smoke and flames from the main landing gear area, so the aircrew egressed the aircraft and the fire was extinguished. The aircraft suffered heat damage in the main landing gear and engine damage from the fire retardant. The accident was caused by the wingman pilot's bad decision to abort the takeoff, due to his lack of experience, since the aircraft had no anomalies that would have prevented it from flying.
